Ian Fowles

Ian Walton Fowles (born 1979) is an American musician and author, best known as the original guitarist for the Orange County hardcore punk band Death by Stereo and as the current guitarist of the Orange County rock band The Aquabats, of which he performs under the stage name Eagle "Bones" Falconhawk.

Biography

Fowles grew up in Orange County, and started playing guitar in his early teen years, claiming to have been inspired by seeing the guitarist character of Marty McFly in the film Back to the Future.^[1] By the age of 14, Fowles was playing regularly in local punk bands. In 1996, Fowles was part of the original formation of Death by Stereo, in which he remained until his departure in late 1998, when he left to serve a two-year mission for the LDS Church.^[1]

Fowles joined The Aquabats as a full-time member in 2006, following the departure of the group's previous guitarist, original member Courtney Pollock. Currently, Fowles is also the bassist for AFI member Hunter Burgan's side project Hunter Revenge. He has also played live and/or recorded with Sense Field, Further Seems Forever, The D-Cons, CleanX, Checkpoint Charley, Jacob Luttrell, Brandon Saller,^[2] Dead Sara and the 80's tribute bands The Electric Youth, IronHeart and Members Only.

Fowles is left-handed, and currently plays a left-handed Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster model guitar with The Aquabats.

He is a practicing member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and studies at the School of Religion at Claremont Graduate University. In November 2010, Fowles published his first book, A Sound Salvation: Rock N' Roll as a Religion.^[3]
